The Secret Life of Apple Cider VinegarPosted on
While many people tout Apple Cider Vinegar’s weight loss properties, even buying it up in pill form, Apple Cider Vinegar (a.k.a. ACV) has many other uses that might surprise you. Here are some of the more obscure uses for ACV that will enhance many areas of your life.
The Garden-ator: For an organic weed killer, take 1 part ACV to 8 parts distilled water and put in a spray bottle, and start spraying your garden weeds.
Powerful Produce Wash: Dirt and pesticides on your produce are no more when you wash them in 4 tablespoons of ACV in 1 gallon of water.
The All-Purpose Household Cleaner: Add equal parts of water, ACV and a couple of drops of your favorite essential oil—citrus or lavender are great choices—to clean the surfaces of your home.
Sunburn Relief: Fill your soaker tub with water and 1 cup of ACV to relieve too much time spent in the sun. Use a spray bottle with 2 parts water, 1 part ACV to soothe a contained sunburn.
Organic Goo-Gone: Spray straight ACV on those hard-to-remove, sticky price tag labels and they will wipe away cleanly.
Painting Prep: If you’re planning to paint your kitchen cabinets, walls or other furniture pieces, an ACV pre-spray and wipe down will ensure it’s clean and ready to paint.
Stinky Shoes Relief: Simply remove the insoles of the affected pair of shoes, soak them in vinegar and warm water for 120 minutes, let them dry and then reinsert them. The foot odor stench will be gone.
Sore Muscles Solution: If you’re experiencing sore muscles from lactic acid buildup after your workouts, simply add one tablespoon of ACV to your water bottle and drink it to prevent muscle soreness.
Dairy-Free Buttermilk: If you’re off of dairy, especially those of you with O+ blood types, the good news is that you can still create recipes with buttermilk. Simply sour your rice milk with ACV and you will create homemade “buttermilk.”
Pet Insurance: ACV is a lifesaver for pets. If your dog gets yeast-based ear infections, cotton balls soaked in an equal part of distilled water and apple cider vinegar will treat them. For itchy skin, add three tablespoons of ACV to a quarter of water and create a rinse to use on your pet after they’ve had their bath, letting it dry naturally. Misting this same solution on your dog’s fur creates an incredibly healthy, shiny coat as well while repelling fleas!
The one area where we advise you not use ACV is in your drain with baking soda, as a clogged drain solution. We respect your DIY spirit, but please always call the plumbing technicians at Roscoe Brown to attend to any drain clogs. We’re always here for you at 1-888-MY-ROSCOE.
